News : Nearly six years after a bipartisan commission sounded the alarm about a transportation system in a crisis so severe that it carried a shortfall of nearly $1 billion a year, Governor Deval Patrick will ask lawmakers to solve the problem with a plan that includes higher taxes.
Comment: Are we serious about fulling funding our human infrastructure too? Thanks to Sondra Peskoe for this insight —The Commonwealth needs additional revenues for more than transportation…our education, human services and healthcare systems are also in need of additional funds. Therefore, this seems like a wasted opportunity. If you’re going to call for additional taxes, why not take advantage of this opportunity and have the vision to look at the entire budget to make the Commonwealth its best for as many people as possible in as many communities around the state?
